  • A POPULAR SNACK FROM A LARGE SUPERMARKET IS BEING WARNED THAT IT "MAY CAUSE A BURNING MOUTH."

Due to concerns that it "may cause a burning sensation" when consumed, Lidl has immediately pulled one of its own-brand sweet snacks off its shelves.

A 'do not eat' warning was issued by food safety authorities for two of the store's Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzels. 'Potentially create discomfort and make them unsafe to the consumer' is the belief.

Recalls are issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which released the advisory, when flaws with food are discovered that indicate it should not be sold.

According to Lidl, just four batches of their 140g boxes of milk chocolate and dark chocolate pretzels are affected by the recall.

The batch codes for all impacted products are 8509 and 8535, and their best before dates are February 28, 2025, and June 30, 2025.

The 140g Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzels in milk and dark chocolate bags with batch code 8535 are not to be consumed, customers have been informed.

"It cannot be ruled out that, if consumed, this product may cause a burning sensation in the mouth," the shop stated.

"Do not consume the aforementioned product if you have already purchased it."

Please return the item to a Lidl store instead for a complete refund, whether or not you have a receipt.

"Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product," the FSA further stated.

"These notices tell customers what to do if they have purchased the product and explain why it is being recalled."
