•  AMERICAN HOSTAGE RELEASED. AFTER YEARS IN CAPTIVITY IN RUSSIA, MARC FOGEL ARRIVES IN THE UNITED STATES.

After being released from Russia after discussions with the Trump administration, Fogel, a history teacher at the Anglo-American School in Moscow, returned to the United States.

 

After being arrested in August 2021 at a Russian airport for drug possession—which his family said was medically prescribed marijuana—he was serving a 14-year sentence.

Fogel, a Pennsylvania native, met with President Donald Trump at the White House after arriving in the United States and praised him as a hero for negotiating his release.

Fogel said: 

I want you to know that I am not a hero in this at all. And President Trump is a hero, These men that came from the diplomatic service are heroes,The senators and representatives that passed legislation in my honor – they got me home – they are heroes. I am in awe of what they all did i feel like the luckiest man on Earth right now."

Although he did not reveal what the United States was giving up, Michael Waltz, Trump's national security advisor, had stated that the United States and Russia "negotiated an exchange" to secure Fogel's release.
