Keir Starmer has warned Donald Trump that Ukraine should not become another Afghanistan, vowing that UK troops will help ensure any peace agreement.
As he encouraged the US not to make too many concessions to Russia, the prime minister called the fall of Kabul in 2021 "one of the greatest defeats in American history." In addition, Sir Keir emphasised that any agreement must be "lasting" and stop Vladimir Putin from "coming again" for additional land.
Tomorrow, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are scheduled to meet in Saudi Arabia. Despite being scheduled to visit the Middle East state on Wednesday, Volodomyr Zelensky maintains he is unaware of the discussions.
Sir Keir, meanwhile, is traveling to Paris to talk about how to react to Mr. Trump's unilateral start of talks with Putin. Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has been adamant that he will not accept a deal reached between Moscow and Washington.
