- AFTER JOINING IPOB, A NIGERIAN WOMAN WHO HAD EIGHT UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO OBTAIN REFUGE IN BRITAIN WAS ULTIMATELY ALLOWED TO STAY.
Gemma Loughran, a judge on the upper tribunal said ,the woman has a "well-founded fear of persecution" in her native country since she was a member of the group.
'Comically absurd' interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights, the decision to grant refuge was criticized by shadow home secretary Chris Philip.
According to The Telegraph, the migrant expressed concern that she would be detained at the airport and "disappeared" if she went back to her home country.
The woman joined IPOB solely "to create a claim for asylum," according to Judge Iain Burnett's decision.
The judge of the upper tribunal reversed the ruling, stating that it was probable the woman would be labeled an activist when she returned.
In her ruling she said 'It is clear from the country background evidence that the security services act arbitrarily and arrest, harm and detain those it believes may be involved with IPOB without conducting an assessment of the extent of their involvement or their motivation.
